Pradhan was born on June 26, 1969, in Talcher, Odisha. He graduated in chemistry from Talcher College and later obtained a master’s degree in environmental science from Delhi University. He began his political career in the 1990s with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Pradhan served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2004. He was then appointed as a minister in the Odisha government, serving in various portfolios, including industries, commerce, and energy. In 2009, he was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, from the Bargarh constituency in Odisha.

In 2014, Pradhan was appointed as the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas in the Narendra Modi government. He was promoted to Cabinet Minister in 2017. In 2019, he was given additional charge of the Ministry of Steel. In 2021, he was appointed as the Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Pradhan is a member of the BJP’s National Executive Committee and is considered to be a rising star in the party. He is known for his clean image and his ability to connect with the masses. He is also a strong advocate for the development of eastern India.
